Sacred Music Fest – April 21-30, 2017

The festival is open to all lovers of kirtan, sacred music, bhakti, meditation, fun and spiritual community in Hawaii. This year’s festival spans ten days from April 21-30, with events in Kona, Hilo, Beach 69, HPP, Kalani and Polestar Gardens near Kapoho.

Children and families are especially invited and included! Performances, workshops, campfire song circles, showcase concerts, sacred dance, meditation, and delicious Hawaii style organic local grown food. Gatherings and workshops include concerts, crafts, hula, kirtans, toning, song circles, music theory, harmonium, ukulele, singing bowls and much more.

Special Events include kirtan and Ragas on Saturday the 22nd,  Unity & the Band of Angels on Friday the 28th, a ‘Maha’ Kirtan on Saturday the 29th  with six hours of continuous music and chanting, and a culminating concert and service on Sunday the 30th in HPP. Many events are open for participation from interested musicians.

Sacred Music / Kirtan at Beach 69 on Kona Side

The Festival officially begins with an evening kirtan at Beach 69. On the seashore near Hapuna Beach and Puoko Bay, we settle into the sounds of sacred music and ocean waves in a serene setting surrounded by trees and friends.

Kirtan and Raga Performance by Mahesh and Brihan

Join us for kirtan and raga presentation on the Kona side with Bernice and Manuel on Sacred Harp and Bansuri Flute. They will present selections from their album “Lover of the Soul’ including two Essential Ragas inspired from the “Autobiography of a Yogi” by Paramahansa Yogananda. This event takes place in Kailua at Hawaiian Queen Coffee Garden on Henry Street beginning at 6:30PM.  Suggested donations of $10-20 are appreciated.

Singing at the Hilo Hospital

We will be back at Polestar Gardens in Kapoho for a morning of music and meditation. Then we meet up to sing to the patients at the Hilo Hospital.

Prayer Flag Workshop

Morning at Polestar Gardens will begin with music and meditation. Then, Bodhi will lead a prayer flag making workshop. In the evening, there will be music, meditation at Polestar followed by a quick car ride to Hawaiian Paradise Park for a sacred music kirtan.

Kirtan and Hawaiian Blessing

At Polestar on Wednesday, there will be morning harmonium and ukulele workshops followed by a singing bowls meditation and lunch. In the evening, there will be a Sacred music kirtan and traditional potluck with the Polestar “Ohana” greater community and festival attendees. Hula and Hawaiian chanting will follow dinner.

At Polestar Gardens in Kapoho, there will be music workshops in the morning and afternoon will be followed by dinner and lively fireside music.

Kirtan at Kalani & Performance by Unity

At Polestar, there will be a morning chanting and meditation followed by breakfast and a song circle. In the afternoon, The Polestar Band leads a kirtan at Kalani IMAX in Kalapana. Then, back at Polestar in Kapoho, the evening sets off with a performance by Unity and the Band of Angels

Morning Workshops with Unity & Maha Kirtan 

A day at Polestar Gardens commences with a long meditation followed by a music workshop led by Unity. The workshop includes songs from “Villages from Around the World” with vocal techniques and beautiful songs from several different cultures. The workshop lasts 1.5 hours. In the afternoon, the Maha Kirtan continues with six hours of soothing musical vibrations.

Closing Service & Celebration Concert in HPP

After a long meditation, breakfast and music circle at Polestar, there will be music performances and a service in Hawaiian Paradise Park at the Center for Spiritual Living.

Directions to Events at Polestar Gardens

7 Noni Farm Rd.
Pahoa, HI 96778

  • Approximately 40 minutes from the Hilo Airport
  • Follow the exit signs from Hilo airport until you reach the first stop light. Turn Left onto Kanoelehua Ave/Hawaii Belt Rd/HI-11 S and go about 6.5 miles
  • Turn Left onto Keaau Pahoa Bypass Rd/HI-130 S. Continue to follow HI-130 S for 12.2 miles
  • Please Note: Due to construction in Pahoa right now there are two stoplights in Pahoa. Turn left at the first then get back on HI-130 S. Turn left at the next stoplight onto Pahoa/Kapoho Rd./HI-132. Go 4.5 miles
  • Turn left on Noni Farm Rd. (a gravel road with a yellow wooden sign on the left — if you reach mile marker 5, you’ve gone too far)
  • Follow Noni Farm Rd. four tenths of a mile and turn right onto our driveway – you can pull up to the house and park
